Sallah eve fire outbreak destroys property worth N89.7m in Kwara

On the night of Thursday, April 20, 2023, a devastating fire broke out at the popular Oja Tuntun market in the Baboko area of Ilorin, Kwara State. The incident resulted in the destruction of property worth over N89.7 million.

According to the spokesman of the State Fire Service, Hassan Adekunle, the fire incident gutted six shops at the market. However, the prompt intervention of the firemen prevented the fire from spreading to other shops in the market.

Adekunle stated that the fire outbreak was reported at about 7:22 PM on Sallah eve, and the fire crew arrived promptly at the scene. The leading officer of the crew was able to limit the damage caused by the ravaging fire. Out of 1,070 lockup shops, only six shops were affected.

The estimated total value of property saved by the fire crew is N2.6 billion, while the estimated value of the property lost is N89.7 million.
