The Lagos State Police Command has arrested 42 suspected cultists in an intelligence-led operation carried out in various parts of the Lagos metropolis. The Lagos Commissioner of Police, Idowu Owohunwa, disclosed this to newsmen, saying that within the first two weeks of the operation, significant breakthroughs were made in the fight against cultism.

The anti-cultism operation was carried out in Ijora, Orile, Ebute-Metta, and Ikorodu, resulting in the recovery of 10 firearms of different descriptions, including six locally-made shotguns, three locally-made semi-automatic fabricated pistols, and one English-made pistol. Other items recovered from the suspects include three axes, three cutlasses, three daggers, three knives, thirty live cartridges, and multiple charms.

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police warned cultists and other criminal elements to desist from their activities and opt for legitimate means of livelihood or face the full weight of the law. He emphasized that the police would deploy all operation assets to sustain the battle against cultism, which threatens the internal security and peace of Lagosians.

Owohunwa reiterated the need for citizens to cooperate and provide useful information to the police to enable effective policing. He urged the public to report any suspicious activities to the police and assured them of their safety and confidentiality.

The Lagos State Government has been actively involved in the fight against cultism, with the launch of the “Operation Crush” initiative aimed at eradicating cultism and other related vices in the state. The government has also put measures in place to rehabilitate and reintegrate repentant cultists into society.

The recent arrests made by the Lagos State Police Command demonstrate the commitment of the government and law enforcement agencies to rid the state of cultism and other forms of criminality. The public is encouraged to support these efforts by providing useful information to the police and reporting any suspicious activities promptly
