Rivers community elders recover missing military rifles

Must read

The Rumundele community in Rivers State is now experiencing a sense of relief after two rifles that were taken from soldiers by a suspected commander of a local vigilante group were recovered by the community’s elders. The soldiers, who belonged to the 6 Division of the Nigerian Army, had invaded the community to retrieve the two rifles that were taken away from them. However, it took the intervention of the community’s elders to recover the missing rifles from the vigilante commander, Gift Ajuru.

Dr Chidi Julius Lloyd, the chairman of Emohua local government area, confirmed the recovery of the two firearms while speaking on a live radio program in Port Harcourt yesterday. He added that the rifles have been handed over to the Nigerian Army, who have been searching for them since Sunday. Following the recovery of the rifles, normalcy has returned to the community.

It was reported that Ajuru had attacked soldiers who were guarding an oil facility in the community and took away their two rifles. Consequently, the soldiers invaded the community in search of the missing rifles and the vigilante commander. The recovery of the rifles by the community’s elders has brought an end to the tension and panic that had engulfed the community since Sunday.
