Man lynched to death for allegedly stealing watermelon in Bauchi

In the Dallaji community of Warji local government area in Bauchi State, a 40-year-old man named Ado Sanya was beaten to death by furious youths for allegedly stealing seven pieces of watermelon from a farm belonging to one Mohammed Garba. The watermelon fruits were estimated to be worth N2,000. The suspects were identified as Mohammad Daluta, Ibrahim Mahmud, Bashir Mahmud, and Abdullahi Mahmud, aged between 18 to 24 years.

The Bauchi State Commissioner of Police, Aminu Alhassan, confirmed the incident and revealed that the victim was tied up and beaten with sticks by the youths. Upon receiving the report, a team of detectives was dispatched to the scene to evacuate the victim to General Hospital Warji for medical attention. However, he was later referred to Cottage Hospital Gwaram LGA, Jigawa State, where he was confirmed dead by a medical doctor.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the victim trespassed into the summer farm and stole seven pieces of watermelon. The owner of the farm caught him on the spot and conspired with others to beat him with sticks, which led to his death. The suspects were successfully arrested, and an investigation is ongoing to explore all the intricacies surrounding the case.
