Ohanaeze urges Tinubu on Kanu’s release, new state in South East

Ohanaeze Ndigbo leader Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro has urged President-elect Bola Tinubu to take action on four demands in order to pacify the Igbo people. Isiguzoro has requested that Tinubu releases the leader of the banned Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, without any conditions. The Ohanaeze chieftain believes that the release of Kanu would bring peace and security to the South East.

Furthermore, Isiguzoro has requested that Tinubu ensures that the South East produces the next Senate President of Nigeria. In a statement to the press, Isiguzoro added that Tinubu should also work towards the actualisation of the sixth state in the South East. He believes that Tinubu is a progressive leader and strategist whose government would favour Nigerians.

However, Isiguzoro did note that Tinubu’s age may be a challenge for him as he seeks to gain the support of the South East. According to Isiguzoro, “most of the people who made Buhari not to succeed are queuing behind him because of some of the problems he’s having following the 2023 election.”

In order for the South East to accept Tinubu as President of Nigeria, Isiguzoro believes that Tinubu must take action on four key demands. The first is to unconditionally restore peace and security by releasing Nnamdi Kanu. Isiguzoro suggested that Tinubu could either grant Kanu a presidential pardon from the Eagles Square during his acceptance speech or use the power of the presidency to get him released.

The second demand is that Tinubu must start the healing process by ensuring that he balances the Muslim-Muslim ticket by giving a Christian from the South East the presidency of the senate. However, Isiguzoro added that whoever would be the Senate President must not be a ranking Senator who does not have the character to protect the interest of the country.
