Imo Labour party candidate Arrested by police for alleged electoral offences

Imo Labour Party Candidate, Hon Clinton Amadi, the police stated that the arrest was made following a petition against him. The spokesperson for the Imo State Police Command, SP Orlando Ikeokwu, said that Amadi was arrested in connection with alleged electoral offences during the March 18 State House of Assembly elections. Ikeokwu added that the police are investigating the matter and that the suspect will be charged to court once investigations are completed.

Hon Clinton Amadi was a former lawmaker at the Imo House of Assembly between 2007 and 2011, and was contesting again under the Labour Party in Owerri Municipal Council in the March 18 Imo State House of Assembly elections. However, his dreams were cut short when he was arrested by the police at the state secretariat of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, located along Port Harcourt Road in Owerri.

An eyewitness confirmed the incident to newsmen in Owerri, stating that the LP candidate was arrested when he went to obtain the Certified Through Copies of electoral materials. The source disclosed that the operatives of the Tiger Base of the police command arrested Amadi and have since detained him.

The police spokesperson, SP Orlando Ikeokwu, revealed that the arrest was made following a petition against Amadi in connection with alleged electoral offences during the March 18 State House of Assembly elections.
