FRSC launches “Operation show your drivers licence” in Rivers

Must read

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has announced that it will conduct a four-day special enforcement exercise named “Operation Show Your Driver Licence” in Rivers State from April 4, 2023. The operation is designed to tackle the increasing rate of reckless driving in the state and enforce the provisions of the law that mandates motorists to obtain and carry a valid driver’s licence while driving.

Salisu Gallanduci, the FRSC Sector Commander in Rivers State, disclosed in a statement that the exercise had become necessary following the high rate of driving without a valid licence on the state’s highways. He also expressed concern about the excessive speeding by motorists within the Port Harcourt metropolis, hence the need to clamp down on defaulters and ensure that only licensed drivers ply the roads.

Gallanduci instructed FRSC officials in Port Harcourt, Eleme, Ahoada, Isiokpo, and Bonny Island to carry out the special enforcement operation and apprehend violators of traffic rules and regulations. He also assured that the enforcement would be done with fairness, firmness, and friendliness towards motorists.

The FRSC Sector Commander urged members of the public to comply with the law and support the FRSC officials in the course of the enforcement operation.

He emphasized that driving without a valid driver’s licence was not only illegal but also posed a danger to the lives of other road users, as such drivers were “as good as one who is driving with a licence to kill.”

The FRSC is calling on all motorists in Rivers State to ensure that they have valid driver’s licences and carry them at all times while driving. The “Operation Show Your Driver Licence” enforcement exercise is part of the FRSC’s commitment to enhancing road safety and reducing accidents on the highways
