Delta APC suspends Dep Senate President, Omo-Agege over alleged maze theft, other offenses

Must read

Nigeria’s Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege, has been suspended by a faction of the All Progressives Congress in the Delta Central Senatorial District over his alleged role in the Maze theft incident that occurred five years ago at the red chamber.

The Vice-Chairman of the Delta Central Senatorial District, Sir Michael Oruafe, confirmed the suspension and urged the national secretariat of the APC to ratify the decision. The party executive in the Senatorial District has already received Omo-Agege’s expulsion receipt from his ward, and the Local Government has approved and forwarded it to the state.

Omo-Agege, who is the APC candidate in the recently concluded Governorship Election in Delta State, did not appeal seven days after his expulsion. However, he has denied the suspension, describing it as fake through his media aide, Ima Niboro.

Oruafe countered Omo-Agege’s denial, stating that the faction’s call for his expulsion should not affect other party members in the state, and the national leadership of the party should approve Omo-Agege’s expulsion immediately without delay for the benefit of the state party.

Oruafe listed Omo-Agege’s alleged offenses, including the Senate Maize theft in the Eight National Assembly, hijacking the party from the ward to the state, personal appointment of the Publicity Secretary without consultation with anyone in the state, and misuse of funds meant for the presidential, Senate, and governorship elections.

He also accused Omo-Agege of entering an unholy alliance with the Labour Party during the presidential election and having alleged links with Igbe confraternity that angered the Church, affecting the APC’s chances in Delta State.

Moreover, Omo-Agege’s attitude, the Maze issue, which the people in the state were not comfortable with, and his alleged boast that Delta North will never get anything from the state if he becomes the governor created animosity among ethnic groups, causing disaffection and disunity among APC members in the state.

Oruafe claimed that Omo-Agege led the party in Delta North and the entire state into disrepute, opprobrium, and hate, resulting in the abysmal performance of the APC in the Governorship of February 18, 2023.
