Lucas Ateniola, 80 has revealed that he murdered his victim and stabbed her pregnant daughter to comma because the family threatened to kill him.
Ateniola allegedly stabbed and killed a middle aged woman identified as Regina Nwamaka Onogwu and her pregnant daughter also identified as Alice Bodunride who luckily survived the attack but still in the intensive care unit of a hospital in Ado Ekiti.
Bodunride reportedly lost her pregnancy in the incident which happened on March 24, 2023 in Emure-Ekiti, Ekiti State.
According to a family source who pleaded anonymity, Ateniola and Onogwu prior to the unfortunate incident, had issue bothering on allegation of stolen chicken which was earlier reported at the palace of the village head (Baale) in the area after which the traditional ruler found the Ateniola guilty in the matter and subsequently banished him from the community.
The source further narrated that as the case did not go well with the suspect, he allegedly vowed to wipe off Onogwu and her family from the planet (earth) and thereafter takes his own life.
That was what made the suspect to enter the victim’s bedroom in the middle of the night and attacked her with a machete until her intestines began to protrude from her body.
He also stabbed the victim’s daughter, Alice several times when she raised an alarm which attracted neighbours to the scene to rescue her, the source added
A chief magistrates’ court in Ado-Ekiti has ordered the remand of the suspect who was apprehended by neighbours and handed over to the police at a correctional centre over the alleged murder.
The Police Investigation Officer in the case, Caleb Leramo, at the court, said the accused murdered one Elizabeth Nwamaka Onogwu and attempted to murder 20-year-old Alice Bodunride, at their residence in Emure-Ekiti on March 24.
Leramo told the court that Ateniola and his victims were neighbours living in the same building and that the octogenarian claimed that they threatened to kill him.
The prosecutor said the accused later confessed to the crime which contravenes the criminal laws of Ekiti state 2021.
He prayed the court to remand the accused to a correctional centre, pending legal advice from the office of the director of the public prosecution.
Although the accused was not arraigned, Saka Afunso, the presiding chief magistrate ordered Ateniola’s remand and adjourned the case till May 11 for mention.
