Labour Party suspends 11 officials over anti-party activities in Nasarawa

Must read

The Labour Party (LP) in Nasarawa State has suspended 11 officials over allegations of engaging in anti-party activities during the recently concluded governorship and state House of Assembly elections in the state. The party’s chairman, Mr Alex Emmanuel, and assistant secretary, Mr Ashime Benjamin Respect, issued a statement on Wednesday in Lafia, announcing the suspension of the affected officials.

The statement revealed that the suspended executive members included officials from both the state and local government levels, who endorsed a certain political party in the election without recourse to the party leadership, thereby ridiculing the party. The suspended members were accused of going against Article 19 part ‘B’ and number 2 of the party’s constitution, which stipulates disciplinary measures for anti-party activities that lead to embarrassment, contempt, and ridicule of the party.

The suspended officials were identified as Dahiru Abubakar, Women Leader; Hajara Dalhatu, Treasurer; Musa Doma, Lafia LGA Party Chairman; Muhammad Aliyu; Chairman of the Party in LGAs; Kurah Tente, Keffi LGA; Ashefo Jubrin, Obi; Promise Ezekiel, Akwanga; Muhammad Aruwa, Karu LGA; Abdullahi Eya, Nasarawa LGA; Abdulrahaman Kasimu, Awe; and Achuku Ibrahim, Nassarawa Eggon LGA.

The statement further revealed that a five-man committee has been constituted, with a two-week timeframe, to investigate the suspended members’ activities. If found guilty, appropriate disciplinary actions will be taken against them. The suspension was done in conjunction with the national body of the party to curb future occurrences of anti-party activities within the party.

The statement also recalled that when the party’s governorship candidate, Joseph Ewuga, stepped down and declared his support for the People’s Democratic Party’s governorship candidate, David Ombugadu, he duly informed the party. The party, in turn, communicated the development to its national body.

The suspension of the 11 officials by the Labour Party in Nasarawa State over allegations of anti-party activities has sent a strong message that the party will not condone acts that go against its constitution and guidelines. The suspension also shows that the party is committed to upholding the integrity of the party and promoting discipline and respect for party structures
