Must read

In a shocking incident, the wife of a traditional ruler in Benue State has been accused of using a hot pressing iron to burn the buttocks of her house help, resulting in deep wounds. The police confirmed the incident and stated that the suspect is already in custody for questioning.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Catherine Anene, the woman allegedly used the pressing iron to discipline her house help for an offense he committed. The victim was later admitted to the Benue State University Teaching Hospital Makurdi, where he is currently receiving treatment.

An eyewitness who wished to remain anonymous spoke to our correspondent, saying that the woman, who is the wife of a prominent traditional ruler in Benue, continued to send the house help on errands even after burning him with the pressing iron. A neighbor raised the alarm when she saw the boy walking in pain to fetch water at a borehole, prompting her to inquire about his condition.

This incident has once again brought attention to the issue of domestic violence in Nigeria. The use of violence to discipline or punish domestic staff is a common occurrence in many Nigerian households. However, such acts are illegal and can result in serious legal consequences for the perpetrators.

The Benue State Police Command has promised to ensure that justice is served in this case. The incident highlights the need for increased awareness and education on the rights of domestic staff and the importance of treating them with dignity and respect
