Scott Eguabor, boxing coach, has allegedly punched his brother-in-law, Sunday Okoro to death on Sunday in Erie Street, off Sokponba Road in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State.
Eguabor, in charge of boxing in the Edo State Ministry of Sports Council and head of Edo State Security Network in Erie and its environs, fled his home after committing the crime, barely one month after the victim’s wife put to bed.
An eyewitness said that the deceased wept profusely after the attack before he went to lay a complain at the Esigie Police Division where he was advised to go and treat himself.
Obaraye said the deceased ignored the police advice and instead went to his in-laws to report the matter where he collapsed and died.
He said, “Sunday greeted me in Erie Street and proceeded to meet Scott at a bar where was relaxing. After greeting his brother in-law (Scott) and his sister, Scott then asked the couple why they quarrel so often.
“Suddenly, Scott stood up and gave Sunday a punch on his nose and mouth. Immediately Sunday fell. Some persons who were present at the scene, lifted him from the floor after which he left the scene.
“Esigie Police Station prepared an extract for Sunday to go and treat himself at the Police Clinic. He, however, went to his in-laws house where he collapsed and died. I then took his body to the same police station where we were advised to take his body to a mortuary.
“Sunday, a casket maker, had just finished paying over N300,000 debt he incurred after his wife (widow) was delivered of a baby boy via a Caesarian section.
“Who will take care of the young widow and his three children?”, Okoro-Obaraye queried, while demanding for justice, support for the family of the deceased.
Edo State Command PPRO, Chidi Nwabuzor said that he was yet to get the details of the incidence.
