Lagos election: Celebrities raise alarm over attacks on voters, disenfranchisement

Nigerian celebrities have raised the alarm over the attack on voters in Lagos in the Saturday governorship and State Assembly elections. Some of the celebrities said they personal witnessed the attack and lamented that policemen deployed was helpless and could take no action to end the carnage.

Chioma Akpota, a Nollywood actress had earlier cried out over attack on her by some people she alleged were APC thugs. According to her, some people at her polling units attacked her immediately she get their to vote. She claimed she was attacked with bottles and knives and she had to run out from the area.

Similarly, Peter of P-Square, popularly known as Mr. P has lamented the high level of attack across Lagos State during the exercise, declaring that there are no policemen in the country to maintain peace during elections.

Also, musician, Falz lamented the attack on Arise TV crew and others in the state. Falz tweeted: ā€œI am so livid.

ā€œThis level of fuckery is unbelievable!

ā€œA couple of Arise TV journalists were very badly beaten up at my polling unit.

ā€œOF COURSE, in the presence of Police officers!ā€

Also Nollywood Actor, Jim Iyke, while lamenting the situation in Lagos asked to know the true meaning of Democracy. Iyke who posted a photo of Labour Party’s candidate in the state, Rhodes-Vivor meeting with the Oba of Lagos said he did good by listening to the wise man who advised him to go for dual citizenship.

Violence has been reported across Lagos State during the Saturday’s election with many voters disenfranchised. Videos of shootings, attacks, snatching of ballot boxes and intimidations went viral during the polls.

Earlier, MC Oluomo, an APC chieftain and Lagos Parks and Garden’s boss had threatened Igbos in the state to stay at home if they were not coming out to vote for the APC. His comment which he later withdrew had generated serious controversies across the state. He later withdrew the statement, saying it was a joke.
