Imo State ex-governor Rochas Okorocha’s former Commissioner for Transportation in Imo State, Laz  Anyanwu, was on Tuesday sentenced to three years imprisonment for stealing N180m from the state treasury.

Anyanwu was found guilty of all the charges leveled against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The presiding judge, K. A.  Lewanya said the anti-graft agency proved the charges against the ex-commission beyond a reasonable doubt.

The EFCC accused Anyanwu of diverting N180m belonging to the state into the account of a private company, where he is a shareholder and the sole signatory to the account.

The judge said Anyanwu’s offence which was committed during his time as the Chairman of the Interim Committee of the Imo State Transport Company violated the Public Procurement Act and amounted to abuse of office.
