Influx of armed herders alarming, says Benue govt

Benue State Government has raised the alarm over the influx of armed herdsmen in Communities across State after the Presidential and National Assembly elections who have already killed over 50 persons in 4 Local Governments.

This is even as the State Executive Secretary State Emergency Management Agency SEMA Dr Emmanuel Shior disclosed the State is harbouring over 10,000 Cameroonian refugees aside the IDPs and following the influx of herdsmen the State Government is working round the clock to ensure that the refugee are safe.

He disclosed that in the recent attacks over 3000 farmers were displaced and those in areas that were not safe but insisted of holding backs have been compared to leave their ancestral homes to safer places following the influx

He said, “we are putting our heads together with the Councils Chairman of Kwande Local Where the Cameroonian refugees are residing and the security agencies to ensure that the refugees are not attacked by the armed herdsmen in their camps”

Dr. Shior also commended successive Governors of the State for their efforts in curtailing herders attacked on farmers, especially Senator Gabriel Suswam who was also a victim the herdsmen attack when he went to Guma to sympathize with relations of victims of herdsmen attacks and as well assessed the level of destruction and damage
