Residents of Owerri, the Imo State capital have decried the continuous power blackout by the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) on the orders of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC).
The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company had last Thursday shut power supply in compliance with the directive of the national leadership of the Nigerian Labour Congress.
The national leadership of the Nigerian Labour Congress had directed her members to commence immediate strike action to protest the subjection of Imo workers, institutions, and individuals to horrendous scare, fear and violence in their daily activities and owing 11,000 workers over 20-month salary over claims of being ghost workers, amongst others.
Further, the NLC accused the state government of disruption of the state delegates congress using security operatives.
However, dialogue between the parties failed even as Governor Hope Uzodimma had relieved the appointment of the commissioner for Labour and Productivity, Ford Ozumba, over the protracted crisis.
Meanwhile, officials of the state government had accused the newly elected NLC president, Comrade Joe Ajaero who hails from Imo state of bias and opposition.
Residents had taken to their social media handles to complain over the outage while some commended the NLC for the strike action.
