2023: Ex-party chairman, Nwosu leads 600 PDP members, supporters to Labour Party in Abia

The past executive chairman of umuahia north local government chapter of the ruling Peoples Peoples Democratic Party in Abia state, Chief Israel Nwosu, has led 600 PDP card-carrying members and supporters of the PDP across all electoral wards of umuahia east  constituency, including the immediate past publicity secretary of the PDP in umuahia and former Special Adviser to Governor Okezie Ikpeazu on Security matters, Mr Ugochukwu Okezie into the Labour Party (LP).

Speaking during the declaration event which took place at umuajiji isieke, Ibeku East Ward 1 in umuahia east constituency of Abia state during the weekend, Mr Nwosu who also doubled as the leader of the PDP decampees, hinted their latest move was necessitated by visible  poor performances of the present Peoples Democratic Party-led government in Abia state, includingl the misrepresentations and legislative redundancy steadily displayed by those entrusted with people’s mandate under the umbrella party to make laws tilted at enhancing the economic growths and Infrastructural development in their various localities in the state.

He frowned vehemently the complete lack of internal democracy and due process by the ruling Peoples Democratic Party in Abia state,  especially relating to the party administration and implementation of  electoral and political programmes,  regretting also PDP has negated its basic democratic principles in which it was envisioned and founded.

Nwosu assured the state leadership of the Labour party they would collectively work hard and ensure all LP candidates jostling for various elective political offices in Abia state in the forthcoming general elections are delivered to mount on the saddle of Abia leadership, so as to enable them to provide responsive governance and effective legislative representation to every doorsteps of the people, describing Labour party as the only alternative to solving the myriads of challenges impeding the critical human and Infrastructural development.

Words: “there’s no doubts that Abia masses are yearning for good governance, because PDP has derailed on the core democratic ideology, principle and electoral values in which it was established by the founding fathers. Again, you wil bear me a witness that PDP-controlled government has failed to justify the mandate entrusted to them by the electorates. The government led by PDP has failed to harness on our economic potentials and commonwealths in developing meaningful Infrastructures which has currently placed Abia in the rank of comity of states in Nigeria federation faced with poor Infrastructure, economic hardship and inflation, poor road network. declining standards in education, non payment of backlogs of salary arrears and pensions owed to civil servants and retirees.

“On these above premises, we arrived and decided to leave the PDP, and pitch tent with Labour Party, because it is the alternative and ease route to Abia’s economic recovery and Infrastructural resuscitation which successive administrations failed to show capacity”.

Welcoming the ex-Peoples Democratic Party chairman and hundred of party defectors during the well-attended event, the umuahia north LG chairman of the Labour Party, Mr Uche Ugele applauded the new party members for their courage to dump PDP, and also their collective decision to pitch tent with LP,  assuring them of equal rights, inclusion and level-playing ground in decision-making process of the party.

Mr Ugele flanked by LP senatorial candidate for Abia central district seat, Hon Darlington Nwokocha, the state house of assembly standard-bearer of the Labour party for umuahia east constituency seat, Hon Austin Okezie Meregini, and rest of other party chieftains during the ceremony,  admonished new members of the Labour party to shun negative acts that is capable of constituting anti-party activity so as to avoid discliplinary actions from leadership of the party.

While tasking them to go round the nooks and crannies in local communities to canvass support from eligible Abia voters for the labour party and all its candidates contesting elective political positions in 2023, the LP chairman further urged the new party members and supporters to shun intrigues of political moneybags who would want them to trade their conscience but to ensure the party’s votes are protected to the end.
