NSSC to tackle cyber threats on digital infrastructure – Prof. Abubakar

The Federal Government says the newly- commissioned National Shared Service Centre, (NSSC) will tackle emerging cyber threats on digital infrastructure in Nigeria.

The Managing Director, Galaxy Backbone Limited, Prof. Muhammad Abubakar, stated this while speaking with pressmen after President Muhammadu Buhari commissioned the NSSC, on Tuesday in Abuja.

Abubakar said that the Agency completed the project with 99 per cent of its internally-generated revenue.

He said that the centre would protect all government digital data from cyber-attacks and foster adequate data storage.

Mohammed said the centre was imperative as all government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) were digital.

According to him, “today’s 4th Industrial-Revolution world of rapid changes is driven by ubiquitous connectivity to the cyberworld and advanced digital technologies.

“As the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy said, the entire building was 99 per cent funded by Galaxy Backbone limited internally generated revenue. There was no intervention from anywhere.

“The remaining one per cent is the provision of some equipment. We have a security operation centre inside the newly commissioned NSSC, built mainly to curb cyber threats.

“We have seen a number of emails coming into Galaxy’s network and other government agencies,” he said.

He added that some of the equipment and devices were put in place to ensure that those emails did not threaten the government’s system.

“Nigeria is certainly becoming well-placed to take its pride of place in the emerging digital world,” he said. (NAN)
