2023 Guber: APC Group berates Ogah’s purported conviction

Must read

Abia Rejoice Movement (ARM), an umbrella body in the fold of governing All Progressives Congress in Nigeria, on Monday, condemned the purported court judgement that convicted the main gubernatorial candidate of the APC in Abia State, and  immediate past minister of state for mines and development, Dr Uche Ogah over alleged forgery.

Recall that Magistrate Ngozi Nwangwa-led umuahia court in Abia State had in  December 7 2022, purportedly sentenced Ogah to prison on the allegation of forgery and disinformation allegedly peddled by members of a parallel state structure of the loyal to the immediate past Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Governing Council of the University of Nigeria Nsukka, Enugu state and the factional APC Governorship candidate in the state, Ikechi Emenike.

The factional group reportedly claimed the forgery allegedly perpetrated by the ex-minister was prejudicial to them and their authentic governorship flag-bearer,  High Chief Ikechi Emenike,  and therefore amounted to an offence contrary to Section 465 of the Criminal Code as is applicable in Abia State.

Also recall before now that a federal high court presided by Justice Binta-Murtala Nyako in Abuja had sacked Emenike and affirmed the former Minister of State for Mines and Steel Development, Uche Ogah as the authentic All Progressives Congress gubernatorial candidate in Abia State for the election in 2023.

AFRIPOST reported that the high court held that the indirect primary election, which produced Emenike, was in total disobedience to a letter forwarded by the national leadership of the All Progressives Congress to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) that it would adopt a direct mode of the primary election in the state.

The court also held that the direct primary election of 26th and 27th May 2022, which produced Ogah, was valid as the Resident Electoral Commissioner in charge of Abia State endorsed it.

Earlier, the Abia Rejoice Movement, while faulting the purported conviction of the ex-minister by the court which contained in a statement by its Director of New Media, Chima Obiwuru, on Sunday, posited the presiding chief magistrate clearly contravened the orders of the high court of Abia State and the practice and procedure rules, accusing the jurist of biasness and acting on the scripts earlier prepared and handed over to him by the state factional party leader, Ikechi Emenike aimed to murder the truth and stop Ogah from becoming the next governor next year.

The pro-democracy and support group also further reminded the public that there’s a subsisting interim injunction restraining Magistrate Ngozi Nwangwa was duly issued by the High Court holden at Aba headed by Hon Justice A. U Kalu (J) on the 6th December 2022 even as the high court ruled that whatever shenanigans engaged in by Ngozi Nwangwa is set aside and voided till the originating motion on notice has been determined.

“The court also ordered that all orders and or directives by the magistrate be set aside and of no effect whatsoever”, the Abia movement added.

The ARM noted that it has become imperative to inform the public that Magistrate Ngozi Nwangwa who delivered the purported judgement against Uche Ogah is known personal associate of the Abia factional governorship candidate of the party, Ikechi Emenike.

Words: “And Abians who are not yet aware, are encouraged to discover the odious kind of association both individuals are involved in.

“Clearly, the entanglement of both individuals has emboldened the magistrate to throw caution to the wind and disparage the laid-down ethics of the temple of justice”.

Meanwhile, Party chieftain and former Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Stanley Ohajiruka has sued for unity in state chapter of the All Progressives Congress ahead of the next year’s general elections in the country.

He was reacting on the recent verdict of an Abuja high court which affirmed former minister of state for mines and steel development, Uche Ogah as the party’s gubernatorial candidate in Abia State.

Ohajiruka, who was also an ex-member of the house of representatives, maintained the APC cannot achieve victories in tnext year election under the atomsphere of  crises, disunity and disharmony hence the urgent need for all lovers of democracy and aggreived party members to sheathe their swords and work harmoniously to enable the Progressive party secure a win in the March 2023 governorship election in Abia State by the independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
