National Examinations Council (NECO) Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) branch Chairman, Mohammed Sham-una Aliyu, has resigned his position.

He quit office over refusal of NECO management to implement new Duty Tour Allowance (DTA) approved by the Federal Government in February.

Aliyu, in a letter dates November 22 said the non-implementation is a disservice to council staff, adding that he is resigning based on principles and his conscience.

“I said in one of my communications to the registrar that I believe a huge disservice would be done to the staff of the council if the DTA is not implemented…

“Consequently, I Mohammed Sham-una Aliyu take responsibility for this failure and resign my position as chairman of NASU NECO Branch. All I have is my name, my principles and my conscience and I am sorry I cannot sign off on this disapproval, and on a clean conscience look any NECO staff in the face…

“I thank you for the opportunity to serve and for tolerating my excesses and shortcomings. I apologise to the executive, friends and confidants for not giving them opportunity to have an input in my decision”, he said.

Speaking in Minna, the chairman confirmed his resignation, saying his resignation is still a process as NASU national headquarters will have a final say.
