2023 Guber: APC candidate, Ogah speaks on implementation of child rights of Abia children

Uche Ogah, the All Progressives Congress Gubernatorial candidate in Abia State, has emphasized on the important need on the domestication of child Rights Act in the state.

He maintained that child right act must be domesticated and utterly reviewed in order to strengthen the law and offer a 360 degree protection and sustained assurance of the alienable rights of Abia children.

Ogah was speaking on Tuesday, also maintained that Abia must embark on all possible avenues to boost thr child rights act and effectively implement the law so that children will have the best possible foundation which will guide them as they mature to adults.

According to him, the complete implementation of the Child Right Act will assure a great future for Abia state.

“The children of our state must be protected from exploitation, child trafficking, baby factory menace, sexual assault, physical or bodily abuse, emotional or mental abuse, bullying, abandonment or neglect and infact, any form of abuse of Abia children.

“I have painstakingly espoused on this as a result of my affinity to children and in my personal capacity as an ordinary citizen, i have floated programmes to help ameliorate the plight of children both in Abia state and beyond,”Ogah disclosed.

The main APC Governorship standard-bearer in Abia, assured when supported to attain the office of Governor of Abia state in 2023, his administration will will confront any form of abuse targeted at the children in Abia state and ensure the full domestication and implementation of the Child Rights Act in the state.

Ogah, who was the immediate past Minister of State for Mines and Steel Development, also promised to ensure

any perpetrators of actions that negates the provisions of the child Rights Act will be severely dealt with in line with extant laws of the land when given supported to emerge successfully as the Governor of Abia state in next year elections.

His words: “To signpost my committment to the children of Abia state and their parents, my administration will review the child Rights Act on a consistent basis to mitigate any emerging threats to the safety of our children and confer assurance of all their rights through appropriate Child-centred agencies of government”.

AFRIPOST recalls that the Child Rights Act became an act of the national assembly of Nigeria in Year 2003 and it guaranteed the rights of all Nigerian children to survive, right to a name, recreation, dignity, education, health care, right to privacy, family life, cultural activities, protection from  economic and sexual exploitation among other situations, conscience and religion, freedom of expression among others.
