The apex body of Nigerian students, National Association of Nigeria Students (NANS), has frowned at the attitude of the Nigerian police over unlawful arrest and detention of Aminu Adamu Mohammed, a student of Federal University Dutse, Jigawa state on the instruction of Her Excellency, Aisha Buhari, wife of the President Federal Republic on Nigeria.
In a statement by Comrade Usman Umar Barambu NANS President, upon getting the news, Aminu’s family and friends immediately swung to action to trace the whereabout of Aminu, after some days of search, before gotten information that: he was at the police units in Wuse Zone 2.
It was gathered that Aminu Adamu Mohammed had earlier posted Haj. Aisha Buhari’s picture on Twitter with the caption “su mama anchi kudin talakawa an koshi”. Just like the normal way angry citizens have different ways of expression on the social media.
Umar, however revealed that on 18th November 2022, the police from Abuja track Aminu to the Federal University Dutse and picked him without any written/verbal invitation or informing the school management or his family.
“Aminu was taken straight to the presidential villa and he was allegedly brutalized, beaten, maltreated and humiliated by the Police on the orders of Haj. Aisha Buhari, after which he was unlawfully detained in a police facility at Wuse Zone II till date.
According to Umar, Aminu has not been arraigned by any competent court of law or granted bail by the police.
“We want to on behalf of all the Nigerian Students tender our unreversed apology to First Lady Haj. Aisha Buhari for the actions of Aminu Adamu Mohammed which might have caused her and her family pains”, NANS pleaded
However, demanded detail explanation by the Nigerian Police on why they will go to school premises and “kidnap” a student without due process before taking him straight to the Presidential Villa where he was brutalized contrary to Fundamental Human Rights.
Also, revealed that Aminu Adamu Mohammed had sustained various injuries and has not access any proper medical attention, hence we call on the Police as a matter of national interest and urgency release Aminu unconditionally or be prepare to face the Nigerian Students.
However, cautioned students to be careful and apply decorum in dealing with people especially our leaders, and be mindful of what to post on social media.
“We want to inform the general public to be patience as we await response and actions from the Inspector General of police on a letter earlier send to his office,” he said.
