Borno: Ehilebo cautions APC over violent attack on opponents

Must read

A member of the Atiku Abubakar’s campaign council and the Peoples Democratic Party’s head of New Media, Barrister Anthony Ehilebo has cautioned that the All Progressives Congress, APC, against violence in the build-up to the 2023 election.

In an exclusive chat with AFRIPOST, Ehilebo accused the APC of fomenting violence in states the PDP is embarking on its campaign because of the party’s growing popularity.

The PDP chieftain was reacting to the recent attack on the convoy of the presidential candiate of the PDP.

Recall that a spokesman to the PDP campaign council, Dino Melaye has claimed that no fewer than 70 supporters of Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), were injured and hospitalized in Maiduguri, Borno State on Wednesday.

The supporters in the convoy of the former Vice President were allegedly attacked by suspected APC thugs.

But Ehilebo cautioned the party, warning that with the current economic reality, political violence poses a serious threat to the survival of the county.

He said: “We must be careful because going into the next election, we must not allow violence to take place. This is because should we allow violence, it will spell doom considering our current economic reality. Any path to violence must be strongly resisted.

“In saying that, I totally condemn the Borno violence. I urge people like you in the media to hold these people accountable. Let them know that there is no time to consider violence as an option or violence as a measure of who becomes who in the country during any of the elections.”

Calling on the law enforcement agencies to prosecute those behind the attack on the PDP campaign ‘train’ he said: “I strongly condemn it and I hope those who are behind it are brought to justice. And here is calling on the Nigeria police force and other security agencies that this is the time for them to live up to their responsibility, being that the president has said he will take a neutral position.”
