Lagosians stranded as commercial drivers commece strike

Must read

Commuters in Lagos State were on Monday stranded following the commencement of a seven-day strike by commercial drivers in the state.

The commercial drivers are on strike due to the alleged extortion by the men of motor parks and government officials in the State.

Lagos commercial drivers under the umbrella of the Joint Drivers Welfare Association Of Nigeria (JDWAN), had vowed to boycott transport services in the state to protest the arbitrary levies imposed on them by the government of Sanwo-Olu.

According to the Association, the seven-day boycott would start on Monday, October 31. But the drivers will return to business on November 6, 2022.

In a statement the drivers’ National Leader, Akintade Abiodun on Sunday lamented payment of illegal fees and collection of high levies from their members by government officials, which they said had increased the cost of living in Lagos.
