United Kingdom (UK)’s ruling Conservative Party has announced Rishi Sunak as another new leader of the party in two months.

AFRIPOST reports that Boris Johnson bowed to pressure and tendered his resignation as prime minister on July 7th, 2022.

A few weeks later, Liz Truss was named by the party as new leader and confirmed by the late Queen Elizabeth ll as new British prime minister on 6th September 2022.

Truss also bowed to pressure and tendered her resignation as prime minister after 45 days in office, saying she could not fulfil her promise to lead the government out its financial crisis.

Here are six things to know about the 42-year-old Sunak who is to become the next UK prime minister after confirming her appointment with King Charles:

  1. Rishi Sunak was born in 1980, in the Port City of Southampton
  2. His parents migrated to the UK from East Africa in the 1960s.
  3. He attended Winchester College, a private school, then studied philosophy, politics, and economics at Oxford.
  4. He married a fashion designer Akshata Murthy, daughter of Indian billionaire N R Narayana Murthy in 2009
  5. Since 2015, he has been a Conservative MP
  6. In 2020, he was appointed Chancellor of the exchequer but quit in 2022
