The General Overseer of Victory Christian Church, Abule Osun, Apostle Nkechi Anayo-Iloputaife, has charged widows to always look up to God for help, when facing tough situations.
Anayo-Iloputaife, also a widow, gave the advice on Monday, in Lagos, during an event put in place as part of the week-long programme organised by the Church, “Goshen 2022”, with the theme “Mandate”.
Goshen 2022 began on Oct. 23 with messages from men of God, music, a free community medical outreach and other society impact programmes.
It is expected to come to an end Oct. 30 with a thanksgiving service at the headquarters of the church, opposite the Lagos International Trade Fair Complex.
Speaking at the event organised on Monday, Anayo-Iloputaife said that God alone has solution to challenges people face, no matter the gravity, urging the widows to surrender their lives to Him.
“Goshen in the scriptures symbolises an uncommon God’s protection of His loved ones; no matter the kind of trouble the world faces at the moment, if you find yourself in Goshen, the whirlwind can blow, but it will not touch you.
“As widows, we are aware of the kind of tribulation you may be subjected to within the society. The gift is from the bottom of our heart as a church as directed by God to alleviate people’s challenges.
“It is significant for us to bring you closer to God through the Goshen, for you to partake in God’s preservation and make Him your husband,’’ she said.
She said that any church that did not impact the community had lost its salt, expressing worry that some had veered from emphasising soul winning to materialism and cosmetic tradition.
Anayo-Iloputaife charged clerics and church leaders to abide by the original tradition in the early church that focused on pro-life mission works to revive soul -winning evangelism in the society.
The gift to the widows was to practicalise the biblical meaning of Goshen, which implies protection from every anxiety, to help the women overcome challenges that are associated with the loss of a husband.
The gesture, a tradition of the church since its inception in 1992, has helped women to stabilise economically, with start-up capital and support for existing small scale businesses.(NAN)
