The House of Assembly candidate of the Action Peoples Party (APP) for Umuahia central constituency seat in the forthcoming general elections in 2023 in Abia State, Hon Uchechukwu Boniface Offor, has debunked the rumour about his purported withdrawal from the race.

Offor had in May 2022 emerged as Standard-bearer of the Action Peoples Party for Umuahia central constituency seat in the Abia State House of Assembly during the concluded primary elections conducted by the leadership of the party across the state.

Speculations were rife that Hon Uchechukwu Offor popularly known as “Uche Afara” by friends, political and business associates, and as well his teeming supporters across the electoral wards of the state constituency in Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia State, had withdrawn his ambition to represent people of Umuahia central constituency at the State Assembly for the candidate of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr Ugochukwu Uchegbu, ahead of the main 2023 elections.

However, Hon Uchechukwu Offor while addressing journalists in Umuahia, the state capital on Sunday, maintained that he’s still in the Abia House of Assembly race as he had never contemplated nor entered any agreements with whosoever aimed at stepping down his 2023 bid.

He also described the news of his purported withdrawal as a lie from pit of hell, orchestrated by those who are afraid of the overwhelming acceptability and support his candidacy is enjoying across lengths and breadth of Umuahia central constituency.

Offor reiterated that his chances of emerging victorious in the forthcoming election is brighter as he stood tall among other candidates of other major political parties jostling for the Umuahia central state constituency seat in the state assembly in the coming general election in Abia State, confiding also that he possessed the requisite capacity and needed competence to attract critical human, economic and Infrastructural projects in Umuahia central when elected into office in 2023.

According to frontline state assembly ticket main bearer of the APP, this would be achieved through the presentation of people’s-oriented bills, sound lawmaking, and the discharge of oversight functions.

His words: “I will provide quality, effective and responsive representation shrouded on the attraction of meaningful and impactful projects through sound laws that will foster genuine growth and rapid development in all facets of Umuahia central constituency, in order to give our people the needed sense of belonging.

“You can bear me witness that Abia is faced by myriads of challenges ranging from decadence in Infrastructures, dwindling economy, collapse in education and healthcare delivery systems, and numerous other systematic and structural problems.

“So, when I’m elected into office by the electorates as lawmaker and member representing Umuahia central constituency at the State House of Assembly come 2023, I and other well-meaning members of the assembly will interface and prevail on relevant ministries, departments, and agencies of the executive arm of government to ensure backlogs of salaries and entitlements owed to civil servants and pensioners are paid. And also prevail on the executive arm to do the needful in the collective quest and desire by all Abia citizens to raise the bar in Infrastructure, economy, youth, men and women empowerment and development, and numerous other welfare programmes.

“Why are mine trying to say? Most parts of Umuahia central state constituency will be given developmental facelifts to enable the constituents to feel the positive impacts of quality representation which will come to bear if I’m given the opportunity, and rally-rounded to ascend the exalted position of Umuahia central state constituency seat”.

Asked to speak on the chances and possibility of his party to wrest power from the incumbent and ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in the coming 2023 general elections, Hon Uchechukwu Offor said that APP is ever ready and poised to rewrite the narratives in the governance of Abia State, and engender good governance in all sections of the state, adding that the gubernatorial candidate of the Action Peoples Party for the 2023 election in Abia State, Chief Mascot Uzor-Kalu has the capacity to effect good governance which the entire people of the state yearned and longed for.

“There is no doubt Chief Mascots Uzor-Kalu has demonstrated capacity, zeal, and sagacity in various fields of administrative and political leadership, as shown as then Chief of Staff to the Governor of Abia State. I have total confidence in him in delivering responsive leadership to the Abia electorates when supported to emerge as governor. As you can see institutions of governance are bastardized caused by the woeful failure of successive administrations of the PDP in the state to provide Abia people with basic and necessary dividends of democracy to enhance their welfare and gender economic and Infrastructural development in Abia state. Mascot Uzor Kalu is the only alternative for a better Abia”.
