Women protest sack of Binani as Adamawa APC Guber candidate

Must read

Following the nullification of the primaries which produced Senator Aishatu Dahiru Binani as the All Progressive Congress (APC) governorship candidate for the 2023 general election, some women in Adamawa State, staged a protest on Wednesday.

On Friday, a Yola Federal High Court stopped Binani from parading herself as the Adamawa APC candidate.

It will be recalled that the pioneer Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), a gubernatorial aspirant of the APC in Adamawa, Malam Nuhu Ribadu, had filed a case against Binani over alleged vote buying and over-voting.

Bearing placards with inscriptions such as ā€œNo Binani, No electionā€, ā€œThe conspiracy against women is too much,ā€ and ā€œItā€™s Binani we want,ā€ the women from across the 21 LGAs of the state marched through streets, arguing that the ruling was a grand conspiracy against women.

Leader of the protesters, Hon. Comfort Ezra, urged all women to stand up for Binani because she is the only gubernatorial hopeful in the country.

ā€œWe called you here today to vehemently kick against the marginalization of women in the political space, especially by political parties who tend to deliberately put obstacles on the path of the female gender during their primary elections.

ā€œThe recent court judgment by the Federal High Court which refused to uphold the election of the only female governorship candidate in Nigeria for the 2023 general election, Senator Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed Binani of APC, is a wake-up call to all women in Nigeria and not Adamawa State alone. We call on all women across the country to ensure that she is not ripped off her mandate through technicalities.ā€ She stated.

In the election, Hon. Ezra said Binani polled 430 votes to beat 5 male contenders.
