Coalition of Societies for the Rights of Older Persons in Nigeria (COSROPIN) on Thursday restated its commitment to the promotion of healthy living among the senior citizens.

Sen. Eze Ajoku, President, COSROPIN told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja that the group would therefore continue to encourage older persons to exercise regularly and engage in games.

Ajoku said the group was determined to take actions that would minimise sickness among older persons.

The United Nations has set aside every October as the international month for older persons.

“This is the month we celebrate the UN International Month for Older Persons, we create activities for the entire month of October to celebrate them.

“We have had Webinars on mental health, which affects a lot of older persons, next week we are playing golf and all these activities are to keep the older persons in good health,” he said.

“Exercise helps the older persons to keep fit; exercise helps ensure that the blood is circulating very well; exercise ensures that an older person warms the joints to avoid having arthritis.

He said it also helps diabetic and hypertensive ones to manage the condition.

Ajoku said that NGOs under the coalition were also carrying out the enlightenment campaign across the 36 states of the federation.

“Our member NGOs are doing this in the 36 states of the federation which means that we are making sure everybody is in good health,” he said. (NAN)
