Military Mobilisation: Russian government detains over 100 protesters in Dagestan

Must read

Russian government has reportedly detained more than 100 people participating in protest against military mobilization order for Ukraine war in Russia’s Dagestan region.

AFRIPOST reports that President Vladimir Putin has ordered a partial military mobilisation of reserve forces to fight in Ukraine.

Aljazeera reported that the protest was among dozens of demonstrations that have broken out across the country since Putin announced the move last week.

The paper said public anger has appeared to be particularly strong in poor, ethnic minority-dominated regions like Dagestan, a Muslim-majority area located on the shores of the Caspian Sea in the mountainous north Caucasus.

The independent OVD-Info protest monitoring group said at least 100 people were detained in the regional capital Makhachkala. The group said more than 2,000 people have been detained at anti-enlistment rallies in Russia since Putin announced the partial mobilisation.
