The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU,will appeal the order by the National Industrial Court of Nigeria (NICN) that lecturers should call off the seven-month-old strike.
The University of Abuja chapter chairman of ASUU, Dr Kasim Umar, while reacting to the court order in Abuja said the national executive council of ASUU will meet today to conclude modalities on the appeal process.
Also, the Pro-Chancellor of the University of Abuja, Prof. Ahmed Modibbo Mohammed, has warned the federal government to be very careful with the way they are handling the crisis with the union.
According to Modibbo, the court order cannot put to an end the lingering crisis between ASUU and the government.
Reacting to the court judgment, Professor Modibbo, while appealing to both the government and ASUU to embrace dialogue in order to find a lasting solution to the strike, said use of force on the lecturers will worsen the situation.
He said the path of dialogue should be taken as against a fiat order that will end up complicating the matter.
