Nigeria’s ambassador to Kenya, Malam Yusuf Yunusa, says marriages between Nigerians and Kenyans are unifying citizens of both countries.
Yunusa spoke with Newsmen on Tuesday at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, Nairobi, just as Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo was jetting out of the East African country.
Osinbajo was in Nairobi to represent Nigeria at the inauguration of Mr William Ruto as Kenya’s new president.
Yunusa said at least 4,000 Nigerians live in Kenya and co-exist peacefully with their host communities.
“We are a little more than 4,000 Nigerians in Kenya. Kenyans are hospitable people. That is why you see lots of marriages between Kenyans and Nigerians here in Kenya.
“Marriages have unified us further,’’ he said.
Yunusa noted also that both countries enjoyed a wide range of cooperation covering trade, culture, entertainment, agriculture, and oil and gas, among others.
“We are lucky that the people of Kenya are very accommodating and very cooperative and they are business-oriented.
“I encourage our people to come and see what is going on here in Kenya so that we can partner with them for mutual benefits,’’ he said,
Yunusa noted that trade volume between Nigeria and Kenya was very encouraging.
He added that in the sphere of entertainment, the Nigerian High Commission in Kenya would encourage Nollywood stakeholders to market the industry in Kenya at Nigeria’s forthcoming Independence Day celebrations.
“We are working on Nollywood partnering with the Kenyan movie industry and by the Grace of God, it is going to be successful,’’ the envoy said. (NAN)
