WAPA tasks women on economic empowerment through skills acquisition

The Lagos State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA), Mrs Bolaji Dada, on Friday tasked women on economic empowerment through skills acquisition.

Dada spoke at the closing ceremony of an NG-Lagos Cares project’s Skills Acquisition Programme organised by the Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, which lasted for four weeks.

The commissioner, represented by the Head of Delivery Platform, Mrs Oluwatoyin Salami, said the programme was In collaboration with the Federal Government.

Recalls  that NG-Lagos Care project is a Social-Economic Intervention targeted at vulnerable women and indigents in Lagos State.

She said: “This project is a commendable socio- economic intervention initiative targeted at vulnerable women and indigents in Lagos State, irrespective of their ethnicity, religion, and political affiliation.

“ It is also aimed at maintaining food security and recovery of Medium and Small Scale Enterprises (MSEs) across the country.

“The objective of the trainings being closed is to train beneficiaries on various skills for the purpose of economic empowerment and elevation.

“These skills ranges from decoration, Tie & Dye, catering and confectioneries, gele tying and make-up, ankara craft and leather works, hair dressing, wig making among others”.

She commended the 550 participants from Agege and Ifako-Ijaye Local Government Areas for their enthusiasm, urging them to build on the skills acquired. (NAN)
