APC candidate warns against thuggery

The governorship candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Niger, Mr Umar Bago, on Wednesday warned those engaged in thuggery within Minna metropolis to desist from such act or face the wrath of the law.

He said this during a strategic security meeting held at the Justice Legbo Kutigi Conference Centre in Minna, saying he would join security operatives to patrol the state to ensure that peace and normalcy was returned in the state.

Umar, who is also the member representing Chanchaga Federal Constituency, said that security of lives and property was a fundamental a issue that should not be toyed with.

He noted that he was not a thug and had nothing to do with thuggery hence, he would not tolerate thuggery in his constituency and the state at large.

“I am saying it loud and clear that anyone caught disrupting the peace of our state and its people should be decisively dealt with according to the provision of the law.

“I am prepared to support the security agencies to ensure that the menace of hooliganism is addressed permanently on our streets.

“I will take it upon myself to personally join the police to patrol our streets to ensure the success of nipping in the bud this madness of thuggery activities ongoing in some areas,” he said.

Bago said that the youth restiveness being experienced within of Minna metropolis required a proactive measure in addressing the menace before it gets out of hands.

“I am not a thug, I have never been a thug and I will never be a thug and I will never be a part of disturbance of law abiding citizens, especially the peace loving people of the state.

He noted that nobody could link him to thuggery and youth restiveness because he had engaged the youths in useful ventures through engaging them in skills acquisition programme as well provided some of them with employment.(NAN)
