Despite the All Progressives Congress, APC, denial that it hired some bishops to attend the unveiling ceremony of Kashim Shettima as Bola Tinubu’s running mate on Wednesday, a man reportedly hired for the event has raised the alarm over the way they were treated at the event.
AFRIPOST had reported that Bola Tinubu, the APC presidential candidate, had unveiled the former Borno State governor as his running mate in Abuja on Wednesday after much controversy on his choice of Shettima and a Muslim-Muslim ticket.
The event earlier scheduled for last week was shifted to this week.
On Wednesday, images of bishops dressed in cassocks and on a queue went viral, with many alleging that they were paid. Some even wondered why they all stormed the event together, instead of coming differently.
But a ‘bishops’ Joseph Odaudu, who claimed to be one of those contracted for the job revealed to the Peoples Gazette that they were actually hired from a motor park.
According to him, the APC members had earlier promised to pay them N100,000 each in appreciation but ended up paying him N40,000. He alleged further that some of them even got N30,000.
Expressing his disappointment, he said: “They came to meet us at the car park behind Eagle Square and they promised to give me N100,000. They bought food for us and took us to another place where they gave us clothes to dress like Christian leaders and reverend fathers,” Mr Odaudu told The Gazette.
“But after we finished, they only gave me N40,000 and another person said they got only N30,000. I don’t know why they changed our agreement because they said they had N100,000 for us.
“I am a Christian and I am supporting Tinubu but I hate when people lie and fail to deliver on their promises,” he added.
Recall that the Tinubu Campaign Organisation, TCO, had debunked the reports of fake bishops, saying those who attended were clerics without big names.
Mr. Bayo Onanuga, the campaign organization’s Director of Media and Communication, denied that the bishops were hired.
