Erik ten Hag’s United enjoyed three first-half goals and eventually defeated their rival 4-0.
Jadon Sancho opened the scoring before Fred and Anthony Martial added to United’s lead.
United played a Liverpool side that made about 21 changes across the 90 minutes, including half-hour cameos for new signings, Darwin Nunez and Fabio Carvalho.
Young Uruguayan Facundo Pellistri scored the fourth goal towards the end of the game.
Erik ten Tag did some experimenting during the second half of the game, playing
Alex Telles at cenetre-back against Liverpool. Telles came in as an emergency center-back, with the 29-year-old slotting in next to Eric Bailly. The duo impressed against a Liverpool attack that featured both Mohamed Salah and Darwin Nunez.
They helped United to keep a clean sheet in the second period, which ensured they held onto their 4-0 win.
