The Chairman of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) Maitama branch, Abuja Mr Oladipo Mabogaje said the branch would collaborate with interested stakeholders to execute public projects.
Mabogaje said this during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Sunday.
He said that the branch under his leadership would sink four solar boreholes in Maitama extension to alleviate the plight of residents in the area.
Mabogaje assured that the solar boreholes would be launched before the end of his tenure in September.
The chairman condemned the prevalent theft of manhole covers by vandals in Abuja saying that such acts could cause accidents for motorists and residents.
“The only alternative now is for the NSE Maitama Branch to look inwards and support with the project of replacement of manhole covers in Abuja,” Mabogaje said.
He promised that the branch would approach some construction companies for the replacement of stolen covers of manholes to save lives.
Mabogaje said that the present manhole covers were casted with iron and steel which made them valuable to the vandals.
“When we use concrete cover, they cannot steal it, as it will be useless for those who want to,” he said.
Mabogaje said that the branch had provided many community services in the Federal Capital Territory to alleviate the plight of residents.
The chairman said the projects were, the recent road markings, production of reflective gloves, awarding scholarships, and purchase of text books for students in some schools in Maitama. (NAN)
