The Wife of Delta Governor, Dame Edith Okowa on Monday inaugured the final phase of her free grassroots medical outreach in Asaba.
Speaking at the ceremony, Dame said the ”05 Initiative and its partners have moved round the 10 Federal Constituencies in the state performing surgeries, giving out free medical glasses among others to ensure complete eradication of visual impairment in the state, ahead of 2023 expiry date of the Okowa’s-led administration.
She said that the essence of the foutreach was to bring healthcare closer to the people.
According to her, blindness is a life threatening condition which brings depression and hinders movement and many people suffer due to lack of affordable medical care.p
She said that the outreach which was being carried out by the ”05 Initiative’ in collaboration with the Restore Sight Africa Initiative and the state Ministry of Health, was being rounded up in Aniocha/Oshimili Federal constituency.
Dame, however said that living without good sight was the worse thing that could happen to an individual, adding that the eyes were the light of the body.
She therefore urged the people to make Jesus their anchor in order to surmount all challenges of life and secure a place in eternity.
Dame also urged stakeholders to always reach out to the poor around them, adding that life was beyond material acquisition.
She said that that people would be remembered for what they did while in positions of authority.
The governor’s wife commended the Restore Sight Africa Initiative and the ministry of health for partnering with the 05 Initiative in supporting and upholding its vision as well as providing mobile clinic for the Aniocha Oshimili Federal constituency outreach.
Also speaking, The Director General of the ’05 Initiative’, Mrs Oghenekevwe Agas, commended the stakeholders for their support toward the success of the programme.
The state’s Commissioner for Health, Dr Mordi Ononye and the Coordinator of the Restore Sight Africa Initiative, Dr Ernest Ogbedo said that the successes recorded in the 10 federal constituencies had reduced visual impairment in the state.
While urging other stakeholders to key into the programme, they commended Dame for the initiative.
In his remarks, the Oshimili South Council chairman, Mr Kelvin Ezeyili who spoke on behalf of other local government council chairmen in the federal constituency, commended the governor’s wife for the gesture and reaffirmed his support for the programme.
Some of the beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the gesture and prayed God to strengthen the governor’s wife to finish strong.(NAN)
