Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has said that the Vice President’s slot of the party belongs to the Christians from Nigeria’s southeast.
Tinubu, while condemning the rumour, that he intends to pick a Muslim as his running mate said that those spreading the rumour were merely afraid of his imminent victory in 2023.
He gave the clarification while addressing journalists at the APC governorship rally in Ekiti State yesterday.
“The VP slot belongs to the Northeastern region and particularly the Christians, but consultations are yet ongoing as to who will be decided,” he said.
He further assured Nigerians that it will be difficult for any group or individual to impose a running mate on him.
Recall that following the deadline set by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on the submission of names of presidential candidates and their running mates by political parties, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has set up a committee to screen Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State and others as vice presidential nominees.
Atiku Abubakar who emerged as the party’s 2023 presidential candidate in a keenly contested National Convention last month is already waiting for his running mate.
Meanwhile, June 17, 2022, has been set by INEC as the deadline for political parties to submit names of presidential candidates and their running mates, Vanguard had reported.
