The president of the Arewa Youths, Shettima Yerima has decried vote-buying in the just concluded Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and the All Progressives Congress, APC, congresses that produced Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the parties presidential candidates respectively.
Atiku and Tinubu emerged as candidates of their different parties after their primaries which held recently in Abuja.
Reacting to why Nigerian youths lost out in the contest in a chat with AFRIPOST, Shettima blamed financial inducement of voters by contestants.
He said, “So much money was involved. You and I know that the compromises came because people saw so much money in their hands.
“We have never experienced this kind of primaries in this country where money moved anyhow with impunity.
“So much money in the hands of delegates and this portends serious danger for our democracy.
“It’s not a thing that we should be proud of. The young men like Yahaya Bello have done quite well, but look at how things palmed out. However, this is where we have found ourselves at the moment.
“In any circumstance, we must continue to ensure that something positive comes out, until we get there,’’ he said.
