The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said there is a ‘mad’ rush for voters registration.
Festus Okoye, Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee said this in a statement on Friday, s
He said reports from states has shown an unprecedented increase in applications and the challenges citizens face while trying to get registered.
He noted that all Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) met on Thursday to review the situation.
Okoye said INEC has released additional 209 machines to the five South-Eastern states, Lagos and Kano where the pressure is most acute.
The electoral umpire promised to monitor the situation over the next few days and meet again to review the progress of the exercise.
INEC promised to ensure all Nigerians are guaranteed the right to vote.
“Every Nigerian who is 18 years of age and above has the constitutional right to register and vote in any part of the country he/she resides without hindrance”, the statement added.
