Bomb planted by IPOB went off, injured two – Army claims

The Nigeria Army has revealed that an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted by members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and it’s armed group, the Eastern Security Network (ESN) has injured two members of the group after it went off.

Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, Director Army Public Relations, said on Wednesday that the incident occurred along Eke Ututu-Orsu road in Orsu Local Government Area of Imo State.

According to the statement, the IPOB members stepped on the IED which they planted along several routes in Orlu, Orsu Local Government Area.

The army claimed the IPOB members were attempting to escape from troops onslaught against terrorists in the area.

The statement said the outlawed group had planted several IEDs along troops’ patrol routes in failed effort to bring harm to the troops.

The army pleaded with all people of the South-East to further inform troops of areas explosives may have been planted for proper evacuation and disposal.
