The governorship standard-bearer of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party in Abia State, Professor Uche Ikonne, on Wednesday, says the PDP Presidential Candidate, Atiku Abubakar has the needed capacity y to tackle the economic and security challenges bedevilling the country at this time if elected as Nigerian President come 2023.

He confided that Atiku is prepared for the task ahead as he has demonstrated such in many leadership capacities.

Professor Ikonne who doubled as a former Vice-Chancellor of Abia State University Uturu (ABSU), spoke in a statement personally signed, and issued to journalists in Umuahia, on Wednesday.

He said that Atiku’s emergence as PDP presidential standard-bearer was a clear indication that the party is entrenched in the best democratic tenets.

According to the PDP gubernatorial candidate, “the transparency of the process is what our nation’s electoral system is desperately in need of as we move into the general elections in 2023.

“You have always dreamt of working for the people, and you have put in so much effort and resources to realize this lifetime dream. But now, you are closet to achieving it having emerged as the presidential candidate of this greatest party in Nigeria”, he added.

He congratulated the ex-Nigerian Vice President on his emergence as the Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party at the just concluded presidential primaries of the main opposition party in Nigeria held last Saturday in Abuja.

AFRIPOST recalls that Atiku polled a total of 371 votes to defeat his closest challenger, Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, who garnered 237 votes.

Former Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, scored 70; Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Udom Emmanuel, scored 38; Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, polled 20 votes; Anyim Pius Anyim scored 14, Sam Ohabunwa polled 1 and Olivia Tariela also scored one vote.
