Son of the late Governor of Kwara state, Alhaji Mohammed Alabi Lawal, Hakeem Lawal, has emerged as the governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, in Kwara State for the 2023 general elections.
Hakeem, recently defected from the ruling All Progressives Congress government in the state to the SDP along with his teeming followership.
He defeated five other contestants with 33 votes to emerge the governorship candidate of the party at the primary election held on Wednesday in Ilorin.
According to the result of the primary election made available to AFRIPOST newspaper, the former VC UNILORIN and chairman of the Federal Character Commission, Professor Oba Shuaib Abdulraheem, scored 16 votes.
Other contestants in the primary election included, Khaleel Bolaji who got zero vote, Kale Belgore also received zero vote, while Engr Sunday Babalola and Tajudeen Audu scored two and 10 votes respectively.
The primary election was supervised by national officials of the party, INEC officials and security agencies.
