The Deputy Chief Whip of the Senate, Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi, representing Niger North Senatorial District has debunked alleged withdrawal from contesting the 2023 senatorial elections, saying he has no intention to withdraw.
Sabi stated this in his hometown in New Bussa, the headquarters of Borgu local government area of Niger State when he addressed party delegates and supporters ahead of the party primary.
He described as false, the rumour of his purported withdrawal from the race, adding, “The rumour is not only mischievous, it is the handwork of those who are afraid of my growing popularity amongst the constituents ahead of the May 25th Senatorial primary election. The plan of those behind the rumour has failed.”
“My presence here before you, men and women of goodwill, is to affirm that I am still very much in the race for Niger North Senatorial seat, I have not withdrawn and I have no intention to withdraw.”
The lawmaker noted that he was not only in the race for the Niger North Senatorial seat but in it to win, adding that he was not, in any way, moved by the number of aspirants jostling for his seat as he knows that the people are strongly behind him.
Sabi stated that not contesting will amount to a “political betrayer” of the people of his constituency who graciously purchased nomination form for him if he decides to withdraw from the race for any reason.
“The purchase of the nomination form for me is a sign of automatic endorsement for my third term bid and therefore, I will not take such gesture for granted as the voice of the people is the voice of God”.
The aspirant presented a 200-page compendium of his seven years of constituency work to the people, saying, “I have fulfilled all my campaign promises to you and assure you, if given another opportunity, I will consolidate on my achievements so far.”
However, the senator appealed to the people to disregard the alleged rumour of withdrawal and vote for him in the forthcoming May 25th primary election.
