Bargain for southern president fails as PDP throws contest open, David Mark to chair convention

Must read

The South appears to be losing out in its campaign to convince the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that it’s its turn to be given the mandate to govern the country.

At the PDP 96th National Executive Committee (NEC) on Thursday, the party threw open the contest for the 2023 presidential ticket.

The party’s NEC meeting, held Wednesday, in Abuja and the announcement came after calibration ended peacefully.

A former Senate President, David Mark has been appointed to chair the party’s National Convention to elect the party’s presidential candidate.

There have been agitations from the south, particularly the southeast on the need for both the All Progressives Congress, APC and the PDP to. Zone to position of the presidency to the south.

Therefore, abandoning the party’s zoning arrangement means that the all contestants will have to slug it out at the party’s primaries.
