More ministers to resign as Akpabio, Onu bow out after Buhari’s order

Following President Muhammadu Buhari’s directive, asking those in his cabinet who have declared to run for political offices in 2023 to resign, Senator Godswill Akpabio, the minister of Niger Delta Affairs, has resigned his appointment.

President Buhari during Wednesday’s Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting had ordered his cabinet members interested in contesting in the 2023 election to focus on their aspiration and quit their job before May 16.

But AFRIPOST gathered Wednesday evening that Akpabio who had earlier said he won’t resign until after the primaries, sent his letter of resignation to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Boss Mustapha for Buhari’a acceptance and approval.

Similarly, Science and Technology Minister, Ogbonnaya Onu is equally said to have resigned his position in order to pursue his aspiration.

Onu tendered his resignation at the office of the SGF and now awaits President Buhari’s acceptance or otherwise.

AFRIPOST gathered that in a matter of days, more ministers, including that of Labour and employment, Chris Ngige, Education Minister, Adamu Adamu, CBN governor, Godwin Emefiele, Transport – Chibuike Amaechi and a host of others may turn in their own letters.

A source in the presidential villa told AFRIPOST that some of the ministers are clearly not comfortable with the president’s announcement and are worried that he took the decision without an earlier meeting.

He said: “The President actually shocked them as none of then expected that the order would come so soon.”
