It’s as an insult – Goodluck Jonathan reacts to purchase of APC presidential forms

Must read

Former Nigerian president, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has reacted to the purchase of his nomination and expression of interest forms by the Miyetti Allah, under the All Progressives Congress, APC.  Jonathan in his reaction said the purchase of the form was without his consent and authorization, hence an insult to his person.

He said that while he appreciates the overwhelming support by Nigerians for his return, he would have personally picked up the form if he had made up his mind to join the race.

Recall that the media was awash on Monday evening that a group, Miyetti Allah had purchased N100 million nomination and expression of interest forms for the former president.

The development has since generated reactions across the country.

But reacting through his Media Adviser, Ikechukwu Eze, the former president said he was not aware of the bid and did not authorize the purchase of any form.

The statement read: ”It has come to our notice that a group has purportedly purchased Presidential  Nomination and Expression of Interest forms, of the All Progressives Congress APC, in the name of former President Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan.
”We wish to categorically state that Dr. Jonathan was not aware of this bid and did not authorize it.
”We want to state that if the former President wanted to contest an election, he would make his intentions clear to the public and will not enter through the back door.
”While we appreciate the overwhelming request by a cross-section of Nigerians, for Dr. Jonathan to make himself available for the 2023 Presidential election, we wish to state, that he has not in any way, committed himself to this request. Buying a presidential aspiration form in the name of Dr. Jonathan without his consent, knowing the position he had held in this country, is considered an insult to his person. The general public is therefore advised to disregard it,” the statement said.

There have been speculations that the former president was being wooed by the APC leadership to join the party, a development the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, had earlier frowned at.

Jonathan handed over to the incumbent Muhammadu Buhari in 2015 after he failed to defeat the current president.

He had willingly given up power without any legal tussle, with the statement that his ambition was not worth the life of any Nigerian.

It’s believed that Buhari is behind Jonathan’s aspiration.

It’s yet clear if he is constitutionally qualified for the office after having been in charge for nearly two tenures.
