A socio-political umbrella in the Southeast, the G17 Enugu State, has tasked leadership of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party in Enugu and Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, on the security of lives and property of the citizens ahead of the general election in 2023.

This is coming against recent attack on the former Deputy Senate President and 2023 governorship hopeful in Enugu, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, by aggrieved PDP members who accused him of flaunting the zoning arrangement in Enugu State.

In a statement by the Convener, Chief Chinedu Mba, and forwarded to AFRIPOST on Tuesday, frowned at the ugly and unwanted incidents that occurred in some local government areas during the PDP meetings, the G17 called on the governor and the leadership of the PDP to entrench peace and calmness in the state as the party set for its delegate election.

It described the scenario as unfortunate and also stressed that the unwanted incident is capable of becoming a clog in the wheel of progress ad development of the party especially now that electioneering activities for the main elections in 2023, had commenced in the nation.

The group insisted that the People’s Democratic Party must focus on getting the best and sellable candidate out of the numerous aspirants that obtained nomination forms for elective political seats in the state.

“We are all PDP members and I don’t know when having ambitions becomes a crime. The more the aspirants the merrier. This is so, for once and in the history of Enugu, then we can have the feel of what elections look like”, the group posited.

The G17 also frowned at the manner some misguided individuals launched attacks on the former Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu over zoning and regretted that the perpetrators are the elements flaunting the rule of zoning.

“When you know that it’s not the turn of your people to go for a particular position and you went and obtain forms, what is that called”, the group queried.

The group lauded the courage of the ex-Deputy Senate president and also expressed total satisfaction with the latter’s strides as a federal lawmaker, which includes, the construction of two industries in each of the seventeen local government areas of Enugu State; and his agendas when elected as governor in 2023 gubernatorial election in the state.

Continuing, the G17 said, “Go to Enugu West Senatorial zone, that’s the only area you see evidence of democracy in the state, urging every citizen of Enugu State to rally around Ekweremadu, who has promised to put the issue of poverty, unemployment and inequality in the state at rest.

The group, therefore, called on PDP leadership in Enugu State to stop every bitterness and rancour within the party to enable the party to emerge victorious during the elections in the state.
