Justice Donatus Okorowo of the Federal High Court in Abuja has ruled that the National Gender Policy should not be a mere policy statement but must be backed with requisite action on the part of the government. He said this in his ruling on Wednesday.
He said the 35% affirmative action which recommended the appointment of women to ensure inclusivity must not just be on pages of papers because Nigeria is a signatory to International Treaties, particularly on those entrenching the rights of women.
It’s believed that Nigerian women are mostly excluded from politics and hardly find a place in government.
Many Nigerian women have recently pushed forward their agitation against such exclusivity.
